FAQ

Our clients have found that they could never do enough research on their own to make up for our decades of seasoned advice, our robust planning and modeling tools, and our deep knowledge of countless topics like tax law, insurance, college planning, investments and more.

Almost no one works on their own cars any longer, and personal finance has become even more complex than the modern car engine. We feel that almost everyone could benefit from financial planning throughout their lives, avoiding serious mistakes in the process, and keeping on track towards their goals.

We are independent, skilled financial advisors who strive to serve our community. Most people could benefit from financial advice, and we do our best to make the process fun and painless. We offer Socially Responsible Investing. Global warming, gender equality, environmental protection, human rights, worker protection, criminal reform, sensible gun laws – if these issues and more are priorities in your life, we manage sustainable portfolios with these values embedded, using mutual funds from companies that are actively pushing corporations to be better citizens of our globe.

Although we work with people of “all shapes and sizes”, not everyone is good fit for our firm. This is why we offer a free initial consultation, so that we can take a thoughtful assessment of your situation, and decide whether we would all benefit from working together. If we perceive that you would not get excellent value from our fee, we may suggest another route.

Our comprehensive financial planning includes unpacking and examining every aspect of your financial life – income, expenses, debts, savings, investments, insurance and real estate. We help you get your whole financial system up on our planning program so that we can model the future and decide together what changes would benefit you the most.

Our advisors are paid a salary and bonus (and profit for owners) – no one is paid on commission. Our firm revenues are primarily fees from investment management and financial planning, with insurance commissions making up just a small portion. We want our clear and transparent structure to be something our clients have confidence in.

Toler Financial Group is set up to conduct business remotely, and has been doing so for many years. Until in-person meetings are advisable again, all client meetings will be held by phone, video and screen-sharing.

Yes! We offer a free initial consultation to anyone who is interested in working with us. We start by discussing the services we offer, and spend most of our hour together learning about you – your hopes and dreams, strengths and weaknesses and all your basic financial data. Then we can thoughtfully offer what we think will best serve you in your pursuit of your financial goals.

One trend our firm has noticed is that most financial advisors will not work with clients in debt. We think this is a real shame, because these folks are often in need of careful, experienced financial help.

It is our goal to serve our community, and we will strive to come up with a program for you that is affordable and effective to help you get out of debt. We can’t help everyone, but we are open to discussing whether we think we can help.

Sometimes we will work together with debt counselors or student loan experts to craft a plan.

In the simplest terms, a “Fiduciary” is obliged to look out first for the financial interests of whomever is in their care – this case, you, our client. The rules around financial advisors being “Fiduciaries” are constantly changing, and together with our compliance partners at Cambridge Investment Research, we work to be sure we are following both the letter and the spirit of these many complex rules.
