Get to Know Catalina Sol
For most of my professional life, I have worked with local organizations focused on community health. Over the years I have had an opportunity to develop and implement programs; manage large federal grants; train and mentor people from all walks of life; and lead a non-profit agency. Through these roles I have gained experience in non-profit management and leadership in service of a just mission.
My own family moved to this area from Central America when I was young. I graduated from Georgetown University with a BA in History, and worked with a number of small community-based clinics, including The Washington Free Clinic, where I met and worked with Fran. I fell in love with the field of public health, and in 1998 I obtained a Master in Public Health from John Hopkins University. For 25 years I worked at La Clínica del Pueblo, a community-based clinic serving primarily immigrant Latinos. There I served in various leadership roles in the areas of HIV prevention and care, program oversight and integration, and finally as Executive Director. I’ve had an opportunity to collaborate and work alongside many health centers and public health leaders in search of a more equitable society.
I live in Mount Rainier, Maryland with my family. I enjoy reading, music, food, movies, being in nature and in community.
